First year team member experience: Vincent White

Vincent White started his position as administrative assistant at Reed Street Apartments on July 24, 2024. Read below to learn about Vincent’s experience and impressions of HumanGood.

What drew you to HumanGood?
After spending almost a decade working in the banking industry and coaching, I found myself at a crossroad, asking what I want to get out of life. Throughout my years working, I’ve always worked in the customer service industry and found great joy in doing so. A friend, who knows of my work history and ethic, thought that I would be a great fit for HumanGood. Turns out they were right, HumanGood’s values align perfectly with mine - putting the residents first and going above and beyond to assure that they can enjoy their best life.

What about HumanGood’s culture stands out to you?
My first week of working at Reed St. there was one thing that stood out to me, when the staff spoke to the residents or about the residents, they were not numbers. What does that mean? The staff does not treat the residents as just someone who is living in our apartment complex. The residents were treated with kindness and respect, a rapport is established through the daily interaction, that is had. This engagement is what in fact transforms Reed St and all the other sites from being an apartment complex to being a community where we care for one another.

How do you see our mission of inspiring the best life in action?
Day to day at our site, I witness our team go above and beyond to assist our residents when they have a rare issue. I say rare because Ms. Edith is a proactive administrator, she stays ahead of the curve so that our residents do not experience any hiccups while residing at Reed St. Beyond the upkeep, we speak with the residents and listen to understand what they would like. A prime example that I can reference is the joy and excitement that our residents have when playing bingo. Knowing and understanding their desire to play bingo has led to the creation of the Reed St. Bingo Club and it packs our community room.

What do HumanGood’s values (impact, passion, courage, inclusion, and innovation) mean to you?
The values of HumanGood, are ones that I hold close to me and would even say define who I am as a person. I have always considered myself to be courageous, I try to do my best to walk by faith and not by fear, knowing that things will be okay no matter what.

We see division around the world for so many things and as society it keeps us from progressing. We are all different, but that’s the beauty in life we all have something distinct to offer. I always believed in sharing thoughts and ideas to make sure all voices are heard, and everyone feels included. It offers perspective - someone can see things from a different viewpoint and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. That different perspective can allow for a new development, one that could be considered innovative.

Lastly, you hear it said time and time again, do something that you are passionate about and it will never feel like work. I was given the opportunity to work for an amazing company, at an incredible facility, and be a part of a great community. I do not wake up in the morning and say “I have to go to work today”, I wake up and say “I get to go to work today, I get to work with a very supportive team and I get to interact with incredible residents in our community daily.”

Through that interaction, I can make a lasting impact because at the end of the day, to quote Maya Angelou, “People may not remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”
