Janney Apartments celebrates grand opening

April 21, 2025 - Local Philadelphia officials celebrated the grand opening of Janney Apartments, a new affordable housing community located in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia. This new community provides 47 seniors, aged 62 and older, with safe and affordable housing.

“The grand opening of Janney Apartments represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing safe, affordable housing for seniors,” said Jennifer Kappen, Senior Vice President, Affordable Housing at HumanGood. “This beautiful new community offers 47 affordable apartments close to community services and amenities providing residents a safe and comfortable place to call home. We are proud to be part of the solution to the housing crisis that so many seniors are experiencing in Philadelphia and other cities in our country.”

“We applaud HumanGood for bringing this affordable senior housing to Philadelphia, and we’re glad the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency could provide funding to help make this development possible,” said PHFA Executive Director and CEO Robin Wiessmann. “It’s wonderful for the Port Richmond community to be gaining 47 affordable apartments for seniors. Plus, it’s fulfilling to know that this location, which sat vacant for more than 50 years, will again become a vibrant part of this Philadelphia neighborhood.”

Several special guests spoke at the event, each expressing their support and appreciation for the Janney Apartments project. Vidhi Anderson, Vice President of Development at HumanGood, provided the welcome remarks and gave an overview of the project. Pastor Jacqueline Capers of Disney-Nichols AME Church delivered the invocation. Other speakers included Council Member Mark Squilla from Philadelphia’s First District; Senator Christine Tartaglione from Philadelphia’s Second District; John Paone, Board member at the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency; Jessie Lawrence, Director of Planning and Development for the City of Philadelphia; Charlotte Ellis, a resident of Janney Apartments; Jennifer Kappen, Senior Vice President of Affordable Housing at HumanGood; and Dan Ogus, Chief Operating Officer at HumanGood.
