Written by HumanGood | Oct 12, 2022

October 10, 2022 – Today, HumanGood, in partnership with Inglis Housing Corporation (a division of Inglis), hosted the grand opening of Makemie Court, an affordable, accessible senior housing community in Yeadon, PA, designed with Smart Home technology to promote greater independence for older adults and people with disabilities. Makemie Court is HumanGood’s 100th affordable housing community for seniors, marking a milestone in the organization’s goal to provide affordable senior living communities in the markets they serve.

Designed with Smart Home technology to promote a more independent lifestyle for its residents, Makemie Court brings together Inglis’ nearly five decades of accessible housing design knowledge and 30 years of assistive technology experience to match with HumanGood’s exemplary reputation and track record.

This new development in Delaware County joins the HumanGood family of affordable housing communities throughout California, Washington State, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Delaware, and marks the first housing community for Inglis outside of Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Makemie Court is comprised of 44 newly constructed stylish and spacious one-bedroom apartments in a four-story, mid-rise building. Thirty-two of the units are available for adults 55 years and older, eight are designed for adults with disabilities of any age, and the remaining four apartments will be set aside for adults with disabilities ages 55 and above. The apartments are enabled with technology intended to support accessibility and independence for all residents, including smart doorbells, door locks, and the ability to use voice controlled thermostats, blinds, light switches, and more.

“Makemie Court marks a milestone in our goal to provide affordable senior living communities in the markets we serve,” said Jennifer Kappen, senior vice president, HumanGood Affordable Housing. “We are excited to partner with Inglis Housing Corporation to celebrate the launch of our 100th affordable housing community.”

Makemie Court also includes outdoor amenities to promote wellness and support older adults to live their best possible life. Residents will have access to a gazebo, meditation garden and walking path that connects to Grace Court, HumanGood’s adjacent senior living community. The walking path is designed to encourage socialization with fellow residents. Makemie Court will also have an on-site Resident Services Coordinator to connect residents with supportive services including healthcare, wellness classes and more to meet their evolving health and economic needs.

“The need for accessible and affordable housing is so significant, people with disabilities can wait five years or more to find the right home,” said Dyann Roth, Inglis President & CEO. Partnerships like ours with HumanGood make more housing a reality and creates the opportunity to for people with disabilities and older adults to live as independently as possible.”

A number of special guests spoke at the event and shared their appreciation for the project including John Cochrane, President and CEO, HumanGood; Dyann Roth, President and CEO, Inglis; Representative Mary Gay Scanlon, US-5th Congressional District; Senator Anthony H. Williams, PA-8th Senatorial District; Representative Gina H. Curry, PA-164th Legislative District; Representative Joanna E. McClinton, PA-191st Legislative District; Dr. Monica Taylor, Chair, Delaware County Council; Robin Wiessmann, Executive Director and CEO, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency; and Mary Militello, Director of Housing Choice Voucher Program, Chester Housing Authority.
