Royal Oaks officially joins the City of Duarte

April 8, 2025 -- Royal Oaks, a HumanGood life plan community, and the City of Duarte proudly announce the official annexation of Royal Oaks into the city – a milestone following dedicated efforts made by the city, as well as the residents and team members living and working at the community, respectively. The Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) unanimously approved the annexation on February 12, strengthening the community ties between Royal Oaks and Duarte.

“For 65 years, Royal Oaks has been home to many Duarte residents—whether as part of our community or as dedicated team members,” said John Cochrane, President and CEO of HumanGood. “I want to extend my gratitude to our residents and team members for their determined advocacy that helped bring us to this moment.”

Since its founding in 1959, Royal Oaks has offered enriching and supportive living experiences and services for seniors including independent living, assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing and short-stay rehabilitation. The annexation marks a new chapter, ensuring long-term stability and integration with Duarte’s municipal services.

A celebration was held at Royal Oaks on March 26 to commemorate this milestone. City officials and residents and team members from the community shared their appreciation and the impact this annexation has on the city and community.
