Royal Oaks residents and families,
Our teams are continuing to closely monitor the Bobcat wildfire, which is currently located in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest. The health and safety of our residents and team members is our top priority and we are staying in touch with local first responders and authorities regarding the latest progress against the wildfires. You may hear aircraft this evening as the Fire Department has three aircraft engaged in firefighting but they have reassured me the fire is moving north and east into the top of the canyon.
As of 5pm on 9.9.2020, Royal Oaks is not under evacuation orders and an evacuation of our community is highly unlikely. Our teams have finalized evacuation contingency plans in case they are needed: we have enough buses to safely transport residents to nearby evacuation locations. In the unlikely event that we must evacuate the community, our evacuation staging ground for Residential Living will be the nearby community of Westminster Gardens and that is where we would ask family members to meet residents.
For our residents in skilled nursing and assisted living, we have identified several evacuation locations with enough capacity to care for our residents. If we were to evacuate, we have team members ready to travel with these residents to the evacuation locations to ensure they continue to receive the care they need.
We will continue to update residents, families and team members via email and phone as we learn more information today and going forward into this week. Please know that our teams are following precautions to protect against the spread of COVID-19 during this time.
At this time, we ask that any residents who wish to leave the community to stay with friends and families please check in with our teams to inform them where you will be going. This will help us keep track of resident locations in case we have to evacuate. We also ask that family members who plan on picking up residents please alert our teams as well.
We will again have a Director on “Fire Watch” tonight, serving as Manager on Duty. They will monitor the situation, manage communications to residents and families, coordinate with any local emergency agencies as needed, and keep the Front Desk informed so they can answer any questions you have. If needed, the Manager on Duty will call in other Directors and on-call Team Members. Jennifer Daruty, Director of Sales, will be here until she is relieved by Sev Tienda, Director of Wellness, who will be here throughout the night.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Front Desk or me directly. We will also be sharing updates on our website at www.humangood.org/royal-oaks.
Sincerely,
Andrew Smith
