The Senior Rehabilitation Journey: Valle Verde Discussion

Written by HumanGood | Aug 16, 2016

Valle Verde resident Parm Williams had always considered herself a healthy and active senior, that is, until she found herself needing a double hip replacement. Although there are many choices in the Santa Barbara area, Parm knew that the convenience the health center at Valle Verde would be perfect for her recovery.

"Since Valle Verde’s nursing center has an excellent reputation—and was next door to where I live—my choice was easy. The nurses, aides, physical/occupational therapists and housekeeping staff are outstanding. I couldn’t have asked for better care," said Parm.

Having undergone two hip replacements within a few months, Parm required extensive assistance. Her road to recovery required a lot of focus and one-on-one attention. Her physical and occupational therapists at Valle Verde were with her every step of the way.

"Determination to recover is never a given when working with individuals recovering from an illness or surgery, said Parm's physical therapist Rob. "Some patients need a little extra encouragement, and others come in mentally prepared to do the hard work that is required to maximize their functional mobility outcomes. Parm was ready for the challenge not once, but twice during her recent surgeries, allowing for outstanding outcomes and a rapid return to her residential living environment."

Each day, Parm met with her physical and occupational therapists to continue to regain her strength and get back to her everyday routine. The therapists and aides at Valle Verde became part of Parm's extended family.

"My only regret is that the Valle Verde therapists decided I had made enough progress to go home," she said. "I was a little disappointed, because I would have been more than happy to continue working with them indefinitely."

"One of the joys of working in rehab is getting to see patients out enjoying life after working with us. Another joy is having people choose to come back to work with us," said Justin, Parm's occupational therapist. "Parm worked with us once for rehabilitation and had a successful recovery, then chose to allow us to work with her through a second successful recovery and has been out enjoying life since."

Parm believes that her choice of Valle Verde was a "no brainer." And, with the skilled nursing center's 5-star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, she says she'd also give the center's team 5 stars and would recommend it to all her friends and family.
