Nearly two dozen residents from the Terraces of Los Gatos in mid-September marched in the streets of Los Gatos to raise awareness about global warming.

Dressed in bright green t-shirts adorned with a yellow sun and the mantra “Global Warming is Here,” they walked down Hill Road to the King’s Court shopping center, waving at passing cars and singing “You Are My Sunshine.”

“This is the first time I’ve marched for anything,” said resident Linda Sampson in an interview with the Mercury News. “Global warming is a fact, caused by our use of fossil fuels and other environmentally unsound living habits.”

Residents Ruth Hensley organized the march with the help of her husband David Scholl, a retired U.S. Geological Survey scientist. Hensley saw the march as a great way to get her neighbors involved in a major issue impacting the world as well as get the attention of their fellow neighbors in the overall Los Gatos community.

“Just look at the hot temperatures, glaciers, hurricanes and oceans,” Hensley said. “I love the ocean, but it’s going to cause heartache because we’re losing beaches to erosion.”
